Student Concessions In Indian Railway

Indian railway as a government institution has got some social responsibilities to fulfill. It in this connection provides different kinds of concessions in its basic fare. It is committed to provide subsidized travel experience to students and thereby show its commitment toward the educational needs of the community.

A Girl student upto class 12 is provided with free Monthly Season Ticket to commute between their homes and their school or college or institutes. Similarly, a boy student upto 10 class gets this facility. Railway gives 60 pc concessions in fare to the students of Madrasa, school and vocational institutions to travel in Kolkata metro. This is very useful for poor students who fail to purchase ticket daily.

After this age students of recognized educational institutions are also given concession in fare. Student upto the age of 25 in case of unreserved category get 50 percent concession in Second Class sleeper. For those students who belong to Sc and St the age is 27 and concession for them is 75 per cent. In case of Monthly Season Ticket the same rule applies as stated above.

Students from other countries who study in India in any institution get fare concession in rail travel. If they happen to travel to India to attend some camps or seminars organized by the government of India they get 50 fare concessions. This is also given if they happen to travel to some historical places during their vacations.

Research scholar upto the age of 35 years are given 50 percent concession in fare when they travel to any places in connection with their research work. Ncc cadets are also provided similar concession in the Indian railway.

To get such refund a student should approach the principal or head of his or her institution who in turn will issue a form (issued by the railway) giving full details of the students. This form is then presented at the booking office for reservation purposes.

These measures help students though in a small way to boost their education. This is one of the praiseworthy feature of Indian railway and shows its commitment towards the education of Indians and thereby helping in nurturing the future man power or human resources.
